Senior Project Manager – Civic
SUMMARY:
At XL Construction, our Senior Project Managers lead with purpose and precision—blending strategic planning, technical execution, and team development to drive successful project outcomes. In this role, you’ll oversee every aspect of project delivery from preconstruction through closeout, ensuring alignment with safety, budget, schedule, and quality goals.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in complex, technical environments and is passionate about mentoring others, solving problems, and delivering exceptional client service. You’ll partner closely with Superintendents, Engineers, and clients to bring high-impact projects to life across some of the Bay Area’s most vital sectors—including Education and Civic.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 
Project Delivery 
  • Manage all phases of construction projects, including estimating, preconstruction, procurement, submittals, change orders, RFIs, budgeting, financial reporting, forecasting, billing, and closeout
  • Lead subcontractor buyout and contract execution with minimal oversight
  • Ensure proper permitting, inspections, testing, and compliance are in place
  • Collaborate with Superintendents to align on site planning, sequencing, and risk mitigation
Client & Partner Engagement 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, design partners, and trade contractors
  • Lead OAC meetings, site walks, and status updates to ensure alignment and satisfaction
  • Build strong relationships and manage expectations throughout the project lifecycle
Preconstruction & Risk Management 
  • Participate in Middle and End Game pursuit efforts, including RFP responses and proposal development
  • Assess risk and provide input into bid strategy, project logistics, and cost planning
  • Assemble and manage project control estimates and procurement plans
Team Development & Leadership 
  • Mentor and supervise project staff including Project Engineers, Coordinators, and Accountants
  • Promote team development and learning through coaching and technical guidance
  • Model XL’s values, culture, and commitment to excellence in every interaction
Resource Management & Tools 
  • Utilize systems including MS Project or P6, Timberline, and Vista
  • Leverage internal teams (VDC, Lean, Sustainability, SPW, XL Shop) to support project execution
QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred
  • 10+ years of progressive experience managing complex construction projects
  • Strong background in technical project types such as K–12, Higher Ed, Civic Facilities, Life Sciences, Data Centers, Manufacturing, Healthcare, OSHPD/HCAI, or cGMP environments in the Bay Area
  • Proficient with MS Office, MS Project/P6, PowerPoint, Timberline, and Vista
  • Deep understanding of trades, building systems (including MEP), and permit processes
  • OSHA 10 Certification required
  • Proven success managing negotiated, customer-service driven delivery methods
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
In accordance with California’s pay transparency requirements, the base salary range for this position is $160,000 – $200,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. Total compensation may also include performance-based bonuses.
